we were bored # 1

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Our plan for this coming weekend is to meet up with the Dykema’s and do our 100th cache together (and a couple leading up to it). The agreement was that we’d both have 97 completed caches when we met up. So we were bored # 1 was our 97th find. There was a second “we were bored” cache, but we didn’t attempt it as it would have given us too many caches… though it was getting a touch late for the youngest team member so it’s probably better that the temptation wasn’t there.

This cache was just enabled today and we were the third group to find it.

The GREAT Frisbee Golf HIDES

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

We had started to do The GREAT Frisbee Golf HIDES on the 26th of September when we were doing other caches on that course. We ran out of time then, but were in the neighborhood today so stopped to do it real quick. It was a fairly easy find. As we were walking away and went to find the next closest cache, we realized that neither one of us had our GPS on us. Uh oh. We went back and searched near the cache area. Fortunately, we did find it… though being an OD Green device, it did take a little bit of extra time.

Nothing Special

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

The cache owners may have thought that Nothing Special wasn’t anything special, but any cache with a trackable in it is at least a little special. We took the Saman Team geocoin and left the Sadie girl geocoin copy.

Not Conquest, But Peace

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Typically we’ve not been the best with micros… and Not Conquest, But Peace was even worse being a nano. But we did find it… and without out any outside assistance!

Veterans Memorial Park Tribute Cache

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

On our last attempt of Veterans Memorial Park Tribute Cache we found the rock that had all the words on it to lead us to the final location, but didn’t have any luck actually finding the cache. After the Moore’s had recently found the cache, we knew for sure it was there. Didn’t take long to find it this evening.

Tee’d Off

Friday, October 10th, 2008

This is another attempt for tonight that we’re only logging on this site. It seems we didn’t give up on Crossing Hoffma soon enough because by the time we made it to Tee’d Off it was way to dark to look and flashlights don’t help all that much. It ended up being a pretty dark walk back to the van.

Crossing Hofma

Friday, October 10th, 2008

You win some and you loose some. Tonight was definitely the later. We actually tried this one on the 4th but it was getting late and when we got to the point we realized that it was a multi. Not only was it a multi, but it was a REALLY long one (a 2.5 mile hike). Before we found the coordinates for the second point, a guy and his dog came by to check for some birds. We decided to call it a night and come back another night.

Fast forward to tonight and we tried Crossing Hofma again. (On the way out we saw some people trying Hoff N Hide. They said it was their first cache ever. We don’t know for sure if they found it or not. As of the time of this writing, there’s no log entry for it.) This time we managed to find the first two points, but we got stumped at the third. We looked for quite some time, but the GPS just wouldn’t give us a good lock on where we were. It was jumping around so much that the actual point could have been anywhere in about a 100 foot radius. A hundred feet in the woods contains a LOT of places to hide a small laminated card and while we certainly looked in a lot of places, we obviously didn’t look in enough. We decided to call it a night if we wanted to have a chance at any other caches tonight.

Onward and Upward

Friday, October 10th, 2008

It’s really painful to log Onward and Upward as a Did Not Find because it’s not our fault at all. In fact, we’re only logging it on our site and not on geocaching.com. We got to pretty close to where the cache is when a group of teenagers came by. Most of them were smoking and they seemed to be under age. It would appear they were just hiding out in the woods. Anyway, it seemed unwise to look for the cache in their field of view (and it had to be within view of where they were) so we moved on.

Exploring Coast Guard City USA

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

The main purpose of heading to Grand Haven this evening was to get a few more of the clues to Exploring Coast Guard City USA figured out. Of course, we hit a couple other caches while we were there. Also, we should now have enough done to figure out the coordinates to the cache. So the next thing we post about this should be a “found” log :) .

The Duncan Yo-Yo Exchange

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

We almost did The Duncan Yo-Yo Exchange on another night but didn’t because Haylee’s shoes got wet… so we decided to do it tonight when we were in the neighborhood. There was only one yo-yo there, so we left one behind without taking one in exchange.
