Veterans Memorial Park Tribute Cache

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

We had an epiphany today about the Veterans Memorial Park Tribute Cache. We weren’t looking for a container or an actual set of coordinates, we had to use the hints along with the item at the first set of coordinates to get the next set of coordinates… often called an offet cache. So we went and tried to figure it out. After completing the puzzle, we came up with coordinates that were about 1.1 miles away… well outside the park. We double and tripple checked our numbers, but didn’t come up with anything better. The hint for the second set didn’t really help all that much either. And without being able to find the cooridnates for the second place, the hint for the third didn’t make much sense. The hint for point four, which gave us the coordinates for the fifth and final place, made more sense. I’m pretty sure we found the right place and got the coordinates for the log book. We couldn’t, however, actually locate the container with the log book in it.

Riverside Park Walk through history

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Our last stop for the night was Riverside Park Walk through history. We had the same issue the GPS accuracy, but we decoded the clue for the first point and searched every match to that clue we found within about 30 feet of where the GPS gave us our lowest reading to no avail. We ran out of places to look without finding our film canister. We sure seem to have horrible luck with the multi-caches.

M.E.R.E.S. Lone Pine

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Following our success with the groundhog, we went to another one near wherer we were: M.E.R.E.S. Lone Pine. Our GPS wouldn’t give us any better than 30 feet accuracy and locating a small container that has nothing more than coordinates with that little accuracy is quite difficult. After quite a bit of wandering, we decided to come back another time.

Veterans Memorial Park Tribute Cache

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

We started the evening of the 7th with another shot at Veterans Memorial Park Tribute Cache in the daylight. Unforutnately, we didn’t have any more luck. The construction in the park seems to be progressing, though :) .

Veterans Memorial Park Tribute Cache

Friday, September 5th, 2008

After Nothside multi it we decided to take a shot at Veterans Memorial Park Tribute Cache even though it was dark outside. We parked in the recommended parking lot and starting making our way to the first point. After a decent hike, we made it to the corrdinates. Once there we noticed that they are doing quite a bit of work around that area. We looked for a while, but never did find anything. It could be either because of the darkness or the construction, not sure which.

Northside multi

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Following our success in the ballfield, we headed over to Northside multi. As the title suggests, this one was a multicache. The description for it said it was a walk in the woods behind the former grocery store, so we parked in that lot and headed toward the woods beind the store. Oops, the first stage isn’t in those woods. We found the first stage OK once we got over that preconcieved notion and got the coordinates for the second stop. Couldn’t find anything there. The last few entries are also of people who say they couldn’t find anything, so perhaps it’s MIA.

Derelict Ballfield

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Our first stop on the 5th was Derelict Ballfield. Other than getting a little side-tracked on the second coordinate, it was a fairly easy cache. We took a Tigger pen for Brendan and left behind a Nokia phone pin.

The Very Very Angry Beaver

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

After our two sucesses for the night, we decided to try the Very Very Angry Beaver again, but once again unsucessfully. We went back to point #2 just to make sure we had the correct coordinates, and they were. Even with all of us looking, we couldn’t find the box. Makes one wonder if it’s still there.

The Very Very Angry Beaver

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Our first stop on the 2nd was the Very Very Angry Beaver, our first multicache. The first two points we found without too much trouble, but we couldn’t locate the third. We looked for about an hour without success.
